CIVILLA

Writing, Editorial Strategy, and Content Design Across a Complex Stakeholder Ecosystem

About CIVILLA

Civilla is a Detroit-based nonprofit working to transform public-serving institutions through human-centered design.

Civilla’s work in the public sector touches audiences from government partners and grant funders to fellow leaders, to the general public. Their stakeholders span vastly different backgrounds, vocabulary, and needs. Translating complex, systems-level design work into writing that is accessible and persuasive required journalistic precision, astute empathy, and fluency in the mission.

I was brought in to support that translation. Working across a range of content formats, I helped Civilla and its leaders communicate their thinking, methodology, and impact.

Select contributions include:

  • White Paper on the status and implementation challenges of federal and state-level institutions’ embrace of new technology systems.
  • CEO Thought-Leadership Op-Eds to educate and inspire fellow social innovators, and to successfully communicate Civilla’s philosophies at large ahead of a leadership transition.
  • Interview Briefings & Conducted Interviews with external partners working in government technology, writing and archiving the interviews Civilla for use in internal and external communications.
  • Grant Reports tailored for funders and state partners.
  • Internal Playbooks including long-form visioning documents, cultural mission statements, and an Accessible Design Playbook written for digital and print accessibility.
